The Citroën CX is an executive car released in 1974 running through to 1991. It was created to replace the aging DS and was the last car produced by Citroen before the link up with Peugeot. The CX had a quirky aerodynamic design which was unique at the time, with the name ‘CX’ itself relating to the mathematics of drag co-efficiency.
Options included a four door fastback and an estate and featured the usual hydraulics controlling many aspects of the car plus steering.
It was initially offered with a choice of 2.0- and 2.2-litre petrol engine power, with further options added later, including a 2.3 litre petrol engine and a 2.5 litre turbo diesel.
Popular variants were the GTi, GTi Turbo, GTi Turbo 2 and the CX25 DTR 2.
The CX shifted sold close to 1.2 million units over its 16 year run and was voted European Car of the Year in 1975.
