The BMW 8 Series (E31) is a two-door coupé grand tourer released in 1990, powered by either V8 and V12 non turbo petrol engines.
The 8 series was very much a victim of bad timing with its 5 litre engine seen as excessive in the early 90’s due to the economic downturn.
The 8 Series was the first road car to offer a V12 engine twinned with a 6-speed manual transmission and had advanced electronics and super quiet motorway ‘wafting’ abilities, but this wasn’t enough to tempt the money conscious buyers of the time which is unfortunate, as it could have been a huge success.
Variants include the 840Ci, 840Ci Sport, 850i and 850CSi.
