If you\u2019ve ever been to Germany it\u2019s likely you\u2019ve been on the Autobahn. Whether transferring from the Airport or on your way to the famous Nurburgring, the Autobahn is known for its derestricted stretches of motorway. Ever wanted a place to see what your speed your motor can reach? The Autobahn is the place to do it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a wonder why the country that see\u2019s BMW<\/a>, Audi<\/a>, Mercedes<\/a>, Volkswagen<\/a> etc limits its vehicles to 155mph, yet in 1990 Britain produced the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton which had a top speed of 175, only 100mph more than the UK national motorway speed limit! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driving at high speed\ncan be extremely dangerous and you should ensure your vehicle is up to the\ntask! At 120mph, your vehicle is moving at over 53 metres per second! Ensure\nyour wishbones<\/a>\non your car are fit for the task so your car stays in a\nstraight line. Braking at speeds over 100mph puts your brakes under a lot of\nforce, ensure your brake discs<\/a> and brake pads<\/a>\nare up to it! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fastest ever speed\nclocked on the Autobahn in operating conditions is 236mph\/381kmh, set by a\nPorsche 911 9ff GTurbo850. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But all this high-speed\ncraziness is potentially coming to an end, with the German government examining\nproposals to introduce speed limits of all sections of the derestricted\nAutobahn. Safety isn\u2019t the concern as the Autobahn is known for its safety\ndespite its lack of speed limits in place. The reason for this proposed change\nis in a bid to reduce emissions. Transport emissions in Germany have not fallen\nsince 1990, which goes to show the level of improved engine efficiency in\nmodern cars.
