Oil is pumped out of the sump and around the engine, which helps keep your engines components working. When your engine is switched off, the oil makes it way back down into the sump. A sign you may need a new oil sump is if you spot an oil sump leak. Oil leaks over time cause your engine problems, as the less oil getting around those moving parts, the more harm will be done to your engine.
